SEAM

SouthEast Europe Alliance for Manufacturing

The idea of establishment of a Regional Alliance - entitled SouthEast Europe Alliance for Manufacturing belongs to Microelectronica Romania and was given in Cardiff in January 2007 and has the purpose to promote the implementation of Manufuture concept in this part of Europe, built on competences and knowledge coming from high education and R&D.

As far, this Alliance gathered four National Platforms of Romania, Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Turkey.

The aim of the SEAM is to act as:

  • a non-guvernmental, business- oriented and Manufacturing - implementing structure
  • an oportunity offering the ManuFuture Platform and the participating countries the reliable representation of these platforms in European initiatives and structures
  • an organization for sharing knowledge and joining of efforts and contributions

In short, SEAM Alliance:

  • is the join initiative that adds value to the important process of transforming the existing country platform into new organisations compliant with the Manufuture standards
  • it will facilitate many persons, research institutions and companies already committed to the future of manufacturing, creating one effective organisation for this emerging and strategic European area

An important event in activity of SEAM countries is represented by the 5th International Working Conference Total Quality Management - Advanced and Intelligent Approaches- With Special Conference "MANUFUTURE in Serbia 2009", 1st - 4th June, 2009, Belgrade, Serbia. During this conference was presented the SEAM strategy- finances in funding R&D programmes, key people and lead markets.

Key People:

  • ManuFuture subplatforms- the ManuFuture Subplatform MINAM is extremely valuable and pro-active
  • other technological European Technology Platforms
  • international organizations, such as CIRP and IMS, leading the high qualitative process towards global scientific approache to new sustainable technologies development

The aim is to form a triangle among industry, research and public authorities focussing the needs of the SEAM territory.

Firstly , it is important to identify key people - mainly industrialists that are involved in EU projects and who can represent the SEAM Alliance at all levels dealing with advanced enabling technologies and industrial innovation.

Secondly, it is essential to commit university professors, already participating in conference.

Thirdly, it is essential to commit public authorities representative already engaged as contact person in R&D programmes, such as EUREKA, SEEA.

Lead Markets

In the context of SEAM Alliance, an important lead market could be represented by the Energy sector. In particular, for the SouthEastern European countries, the objective of energy efficiency can be considered as the driver for new competitiveness, new sustainability and new technology development in manufacturing. With this strategy, the SEAM Alliance can implement the laws and objectives of ManuFuture Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) in multiple industrial sectors and will facilitate the sustainable development at socio-economic levels.
