Rapid Manufacturing Platform

Rapid Manufacturing Platform it is a community of (mainly industrial stakeholders) defining research and development priorities, time frames and action plans on a number of strategically important issues related to RM.
The European Commission supports these activities, and gives the opportunity to contribute to the FP7 work programme. It address technological challenges that can potentially contribute to a number of key policy objectives which are essential for Europe's future competitiveness, including the timely development and deployment of new technologies, technology development with a view to sustainable development, new technology-based public goods and services, technological breakthroughs necessary to remain at the leading edge in high technology sectors and the restructuring of traditional industrial sectors.
The Rapid Manufacturing Platform provides a framework for stakeholders, led by industry, to define research and development priorities, timeframes and action plans on a number of strategically important issues where achieving Europe's future growth, competitiveness and sustainability objectives is dependent upon major research and technological advances in the medium to long term.
Microelectronica Romania has made an important step in its RM activities by recently becoming the National Contact Point of the Rapid Manufacturing Platform in Romania.
On 2nd of June 2009, in Brussels, Belgium took place the 6th RM Platform Stakeholders Meeting, hosted by European Commission. Over 58 attendes from all over Europe took the oportunity to discuss about the RM Platform, new FP7 initiatives and new Project initiatives. During the meeting were presented the latest news on the Factory of the Future and PPP's (Private Public Projects). Also, there have been several presentation of new project initiatives, as well as an update of three running RM Projects (DIRECTSPARE, COMPOLIGHT and IMPALA).
The next meeting, the 7th RM Platform Stakeholders Meeting, will be organized during VR@p Leiria Portugal and is planned in the period of October 6-10 2009.
